What securities can I pledge?
Most lenders accept listed mutual funds, listed shares, bonds, NSC, ETFs etc as security. However, these might differ from lender to lender.
Do I lose ownership of my securities?
No, they remain in your name but are pledged to the lender.
How is loan value determined?
For listed shares, it's 50% of the market value and for other securities it depends on the lender's policy.
Is it safer than selling my investments?
Yes, because you retain ownership, ownership benefits eg. dividends, bonus etc and at the same time get liquidity for your holdings.
Can I sell the securities while they are pledged?
No, you must close or adjust the loan first.
What happens if market value drops?
You may need to add more securities or repay part of the loan.
